Frequently Asked Questions

Does Unity support both old and new income tax regimes?

Yes. Each employee can select either the old or new tax regime. TDS is computed monthly based on the selected regime, factoring in applicable exemptions (HRA, 80C, 80D) for the old regime and the simplified slab structure for the new regime. The selection can be changed once per financial year before the final payroll run.

How does HRA exemption calculation work?

HRA exemption is calculated per Section 10(13A). The system determines the exempt amount as the minimum of: (a) actual HRA received, (b) rent paid minus 10% of basic salary, or (c) 50% of basic for metro cities / 40% for non-metro. Employees submit their rental details and the system computes the exemption automatically each month.

Can Form 16 be generated automatically at year-end?

Yes. Form 16 (Part A and Part B) is generated for all employees at the end of the financial year. Part A covers TDS deducted and deposited. Part B includes the full salary breakup, HRA computation, exemptions declared under 80C/80D, and the final tax liability. The system pulls data from salary slips, tax declarations, and proof submissions throughout the year.

What leave types are supported?

The system supports 11+ leave types including Casual Leave, Sick Leave, Earned Leave, Compensatory Leave, Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave, and study leave. Each type has its own allocation policy, carry-forward rules, encashment eligibility, and state-specific statutory limits. Leave ledgers are maintained per employee with balance, consumption, and encashment history.

How does the 360° appraisal work for faculty?

Appraisals are configured as cycles (annual or semester). Each appraisal includes KRA/Goal setting, self-assessment, peer feedback, and manager ratings. The system aggregates scores and produces a final appraisal rating. For faculty, academic performance data from the university ERP (attendance, course delivery, student feedback) can be referenced alongside the HR appraisal cycle.
